Mountain View Bruins girls volleyball just coming off great region play is ready to take it to the big stage at the state tournament. They were region champions getting the title over their former co-region champs the previous year, the Timpview T-Birds. Sweeping most of their opponents, they won one against Timpview and lost one to Timpview.

Their multiple star players were key parts of the Bruins success in the region domination. Lucy Perez ended the season with 310 kills. This is when a player spikes the ball down on the other side of the net and the opponent can’t return it. Mia Lee had 210 kills and Kelly Wesley with 210. The Bruins racked in a significant amount of kills with a team effort of 1,113.

It was time for the big state tournament. Every high school athlete hopes to make a deep playoff run in the tournament. Coming in as the number two seed they had a bye game in the first round of the tournament. Bye means they get automatically sent to the second round.

Woods Cross High School beat Payson High so this means that the Bruins play Woods Cross in the second round. Tensions are high and the stands are filled as the game begins. Mountain View sweeps the WildCats in a 3-0 sweep with the first set 25-14, second set 25-18 and third set 25-19.

In the quarterfinals they drew Springville High. The Bruins sweep right through them in a 3-0 win. With the first set being 25-9, second set 20-25, and the third set 18-25. They are feeling confident sweeping their first two opponents in the tournament.

In the big semi-finals, MV is matched up against the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles. The Bruins had already played this team once this season and beat them in a sweep in a tournament. Having this previous win brought confidence to the team and it translated. The Bruins bring in the big semi-finals win in a 3-0 sweep. The first set 16-25, second 16-25 and third 23-25.

It’s time, the state championship. The Bruins are matched up against their biggest rivals for the past years, the Timpview T-birds. They are in the same region so they have already played each other twice this season. The first game went to the Bruins in a 3-1 win. The second time around the T-birds get revenge and take the Bruins in a 3-2 loss.

The fans streaming into the stands know it’s going to be a good game. The building is electric as the first serve is hit. Mountain View started out hot beating the T-Birds in the first set 25-21. But Timpview retaliates hard and they win the next set in nail biter 20-25. They kept up their momentum and they beat the Bruins in the third set 25-13. The fourth set is as close as it gets. With a couple of questionable calls made by the referees that could’ve gone either way, the outcome of the set gave Timpview the win over the Bruins in a 26-24 win.
The Timpview T-Birds are the 5A State champions, beating the Mountain View Bruins in four sets. The Bruins fought hard till the end with a great state tournament run bringing in the second place for 5A.
