Social Media Usage and Marjorie Taylor Greene
For those of you who have no idea who Marjorire Taylor Greene is, let me tell you a little bit about her. Marjorie Taylor Greene was exiled from her seat in Congress. She is a Republican with very strong beliefs, and a proud Trump supporter. She loves to express her feelings and thoughts online through social media platforms like her Twitter. The House voted 230-199 to remove her from the Education and Budget Committees. The reason why The House of Representatives wanted Mrs. Greene to be exiled was because her “past statements and espousing of QAnon and other conspiracy theories had pushed her to political crosswords.”
As of 2019, the record numbers show that 72% of Americans have social media platforms. I can only imagine how the numbers are going to be much bigger than in 2019. As a teenager myself, I have many social media accounts from Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Tik Tok to Facebook and Messenger. Social media is important to keep in touch with friends and families, and being able to be updated on what happens around the world. Marjorie Taylor Greene used the same social media platforms to speak her mind. She spread a couple false tweets and some things that she has said in the past weren’t always kind or professional because of the position that she held. Some of the things that Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted on her active twitter account are, “Joe Biden NEVER had a show of support like this while on the campaign trail…in any of his campaigns. Trump WON in a landslide… QT @DanScavino: This is unbelievable! 45 returns to Mar-a-Lago this afternoon, after an awesome day out on the links….to this….…” In this tweet, she talks about the support that Trump receives as he was continuing his campaign for his 2nd term in office, while also rubbing it in Biden’s face. The tweet was only up for 8 minutes and was deleted along with many of her other tweets.
Social media can be used for good things, but if you aren’t careful you can abuse the uses of technology. Marjorie is a perfect example of how you should not act on social media. The things you put online can always come back to you, and in the case of Marjorie Taylor Greene she was expelled from her seat in Congress. This goes to show that social media can get you in trouble and the things that you say on social media always comes back to hurt you in the long run. So a friendly reminder to always rethink what you put out and always be aware of the things on social media, because it can figuratively or literally cause you to lose your job.
