First vs. Last Day of School

First+vs.+Last+Day+of+School

The first day of school vs. the last day of school. Most people would easily say the last day of school is the best, but is it really? Both days have their pros and cons. Let’s look further into things.

Let’s get into the best things about the first day of school. Obviously new clothes, new shoes, and new school supplies. You also get to reconnect with friends that you missed over summer. Personally, that’s my favorite part of the first day of school. We all have those close friends that we hang out with during the summer, but it’s also nice to see the friends that you didn’t see all summer. Another good thing about the first day of school, is it’s a fresh start. You can be as good of a student or as bad of a student as you want, and it’s an opportunity to meet new friends.

Now onto the cons. Let’s be honest it’s a pretty boring day of school. Teachers explaining their rules and expectations and then of course all the paperwork that has to be filled out and returned. Lastly, it’s the start of a new school year, and there’s a lot of work ahead of you, and there’s always a chance you get a teacher you don’t like.

Now let’s get into the best things about the last day of school. Number one is you have the whole summer break ahead of you. Road trips, vacations, sleeping in, swimming, sporting activities, freedom, and hanging out with your friends. You’re done with the hard classes, and you don’t have to do homework for a while. Getting your yearbook signed by all your friends is also a great part of the last day.

On to some of the cons. The worst part for me in the past was taking finals. Everyone gets really stressed out and worried about if they’re going to pass or fail. Another big one is that you won’t see some of your friends until next year.

Most students would agree with my opinions. But really it seems to be a toss up. My opinion is that the first day of school is better because you get to see friends, wear your new clothes, and have a start fresh.
