Mountain View’s Volleyball Team Fights for Another State Championship
After a big championship win in 2019 and loss of Head Coach, Jaicee Roden, the Mountain View High school volleyball team turns a new page. Not knowing the outcome of the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects on high school sports, the girls prepared for a season just as spectacular as the last.
The Bruins worked tirelessly in preseason competing against high level 6A teams and long practices thanks to the new Head Coach Dave Neeley. Neeley is new to the high school girl’s program after coaching at Arizona State University and Saint Mary’s. Neeley is dedicated to the bone and passionate for the game.
The girls’ region season displayed the work they put in coming out as co-region champs with Timpview and ending up as second seed for state playoffs trailing just behind Bountiful. A great and fun season and accomplishment for the 6 seniors on the team. With that seating they bypassed the first round of state and got to prepare for the second round against Timpanogos. An easy three set win and the Bruins advance to the Semifinals against Park City. The game was a close one going to 4 sets but the Bruins triumph once again moving on to go head to head with the T-Birds. Players from both teams are well acquainted having played on the same club teams in the off season, so the game was filled with lots of emotions and struggles. Everyone attended to see the big rivalry and cheer loudly for their teams and with all the noise and drama the game became mental. Mountain View struggled in the first two sets but quickly bounced back to return the heat going on to a tough fifth set to 15 points. The Bruins gave it up 8-15 swallowing a resentful Second Place title.
