With COVID around the world we have all wondered what sports, if any, are still going on. At Mountain View, we have our basketball team already doing home and away games. We also have wrestling that is going to start and swimming that is already going on. But on a more global level, sports have also been deeply affected by the pandemic.

Basketball
Lets see what the NBA has to say about starting the next season. We have seen the season start, but many are wondering if they are going to finish the season. From Wikipedia.com, ¨On November 5, 2020, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) tentatively approved a 72-game regular season that will begin on December 22, 2020. … On November 17, the NBA announced that the 72-game regular season would run from December 22 through May 16.” So we are happy to say that the NBA will end up finishing the season and continue after.

Hockey
All of the hockey lovers out there might also have the question of if the NHL is going to continue this upcoming winter season. From Sportsmedia.com, ¨Ice hockey league scraps regular season as it lays out a four-phase return to play plan. The National Hockey League (NHL) has confirmed that its return to play plan will see the 2019/20 regular season cut short and the campaign resume with a 24-team Stanley Cup Playoffs played across two hub cities.¨ They are saying the NHL might be cut short a little after it started, but we don’t know for sure what is going to happen with the virus.

Football
Football is one the Americas more popular sports. Everyone is curious on if they will start a new season this upcoming 2021. Unfortunately it is not looking good, from NFL.com, ¨The NFL announced Wednesday that the 2021 Pro Bowl game will be canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. … The NFL has endured a number of schedule changes in the past weeks as multiple teams have dealt with COVID-19 cases among players and club personnel.¨ Since the spike of cases during the 2020 season around the player the NFL sadly isn’t playing in the year 2021.

Baseball
Baseball is full send this upcoming season. I am glad to say that the MLB will be starting again in 2021. From cbssports.com, ¨2021 Opening Day is scheduled for April 1. As of now, MLB and the MLBPA plan to play a full, 162-game season.¨

We are all glad that some of the sports that we know and love are coming back. It is sad to see that some aren’t coming back. I hope that circumstances with the virus so that we can see our favorite teams in 2021.
