‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ review (Spoliers)

“How strange it was to give a cat boots; but, whoa, I looked good,” said Puss in Boots. On Dec 21 of 2022, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” was released to the public and quickly became perhaps the most loved from the Sherk franchise. The animation was perfect and gave the impression that it truly came straight out of a fairy tale book.

At the beginning of the movie, the writers show how strong Puss is by defeating a monster with ease, but was crushed during the process. Luckily, Puss being a cat grants him 9 lives, but now he is on his last life. Later, he is faced with a wolf in a dark cloak alone, and ends up fighting. In the end, Puss wasn’t just defeated, but he was sent in a mindset of fear and ran from the fight and from his lifestyle. This was incredible! They introduced Puss being this powerful main character but then showed how strong the wolf is by not only beating Puss but also doing it in ease and so well that it made Puss run away.

Puss now hides away from the world, but will soon meet Perrito who helps Puss throughout the story. Not long after, Puss finds out Goldilocks and the three bears are looking for him because they are after the Wishing Star. Puss then comes to the realization that if he gets the Wishing Star that he can regain his 9 lives and return to his old life. So Puss and Perrito set out to find the Wishing Star.

The two end up running into Kitty Soft Paws, who is also after the Wishing Star. During the movie, it’s revealed that the two were going to be married, but neither of them showed up, because Kitty saw that his title had more of his love and Puss didn’t show up because he was scared. This is great because this shows that Puss is a more relateable character, despite him being a cat who wears boots.

Towards the end of the movie, shows the final showdown between Puss and the Wolf who is actually Death himself. The fight scene was incredible, the way they showed the development of Puss in the fight was amazing. This fight showed that Puss now isn’t under the belief that he will never die, but now he will fight till the end of his last life. Of course, it doesn’t end there as Puss, Kitty, and Perrito still have to fight Big Jack, but that doesn’t end long and they end up destroying the Wishing Star. This movie is definitely one of if not the best movie made by DreamWorks Animation.
