Code-name Spartacus made to rival Xbox Game Pass

Sony recently announced an overhaul to the PlayStation Plus subscription that they offer. Xbox and Playstation have been rivals for a long time. Xbox’s most significant benefit and largest draw to the platform, The Xbox Game Pass, grants users access to over 100 games and online multiplayer access. PlayStation has PlayStation Plus, which while giving players online multiplayer access on games that require it also offers players 2-3 downloadable games a month. Playstation also offers a subscription with a catalog of downloadable PS4 games and streaming only PS3 and PS2 games.

Sony’s overhaul will change Playstation (PS) Plus into three tiers the first PS Plus Essential costs $9.99 a month and is identical to the current PS plus; the second tier PS Plus Extra will cost 14.99 and gives access to download a catalog of up to 400* games including Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spiderman, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11 and Returnal as well as all benefits of essential tier. The third tier PS Plus Premium is 17.99 and gives access to stream an extra 340* games most of which are from PS3 and PS2 generations and all benefits of previous two tiers.
* Some games will not be available in all regions at launch

Project Spartacus will launch in June 2022; this Playstation Plus overhaul will be a much-awaited upgrade to the pre-existing PlayStation model. The combination of PS Plus and PS Now will save plenty of money for users who currently pay for both and bring on many users who previously didn’t have both services. Sony has plans to expand the capabilities of PS Plus; by combining the two subscriptions, the two teams can work together to progress the benefits of both services further. Currently, the team is working on enhancing the streaming capabilities of the current PS Now system, which as previously mentioned will be put into the premium version of the new PS Plus update.
